Insecurity and Fear
Jesus had already told his disciples what was about to happen, but they must not have believed it would come true. When the soldiers and chief priests came to arrest Jesus, Peter responded rashly, cutting off the high priest's ear. Peter had walked with Jesus, he had seen all the miracles he performed, and how Jesus had demonstrated God's love everywhere he went, and yet in a moment of fear, Peter resorted to violence.
As Peter waited in the high priest's courtyard for news about Jesus, others questioned him if he was one of his disciples; Peter immediately denied it. As the night went on, Peter would continue to deny Jesus as others ask him. This same Peter, who so boldly reacted in violence to protect Jesus, was now so fearful that he repetitively denied Jesus in his time of need. Insecurity can take root in our hearts when fear controls us. That insecurity can cause us to respond in fear rather than faith.
Daily Challenge: How about you? Do you struggle with areas of fear in your life? How might you take steps to release fear to God and put your trust more in him? Take time to pray, confessing your worries to God, and ask him to replace those fears with his peace.
