DAN 15 OD 33

Waiting on the Lord

Read: “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” (Psalm 27:13-14)

Think: Last year, my husband accepted a call to pastor at a church in a different community. This meant that we were moving again, and I found myself on a new journey of waiting on God for direction, for clarity, and for peace. Change was on the horizon and with that came excitement, but also some anxiety and fear. In my humanness, I like to know “the plan”….to have a picture of what’s ahead…to be in control. But we don’t always have the luxury of these things. Change isn’t always easy, but I’ve heard it said that growth doesn’t come without change.

During this journey of waiting, God blessed me with many reminders of His faithfulness through the Scriptures and stories shared by others. Psalm 7:14 says, “Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.” Isn’t it amazing how God knows I need to hear that reminder twice? Wait patiently for the Lord! Waiting and relinquishing control to God is the main route to experiencing His love and peace. It unites our heart with His. And while I was waiting, I found that God helped me grow by building deeper trust in Him and humility in me. I was reminded that this isn’t about me, but about what God was planning to do. God used the time of waiting to prepare me for what was lying ahead.

Apply: When facing change, how do you respond? How has God taught you to “wait patiently” for Him? Ask God to show you the areas in which you need to relinquish control in your life.

Pray: Heavenly Father, please give us patience as we wait on you for direction, clarity and peace in the situations we face. We want to relinquish our fears and anxiety to you, as we know you are able to provide all we need to handle any change that comes our way. Continue to draw us closer to you as we trust and wait. Amen.
