Learning How to Hear: A 6 Day Journey of Drowning Out the Noise and Hearing From GodUzorak
Information War
Examining and discerning information presented to us nowadays has never been more difficult. In an age when videos are easily manipulated, facts are cropped and photo-shopped, how much of what we see and hear can we trust? It seems so many entities have access and opportunity to feed us their brand of events. Much of what is presented to us as information or news is nothing more than opinions with agendas. Like a bridle in the mouth of a horse, they seek to rally our emotions to hold sway over our hearts.
As we see in Genesis 37, without astute discernment, information presented to us can drive us to conclusions and decisions that take us far from the truth of God. The “Truth” we trust determines our reality. Therefore, who or what we allow to become our source of “Truth” also becomes the architect of the reality we respond to.
“When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.” John 16:13
Jesus is suggesting that we cannot find “Truth” on our own. Neither can we find “Truth” watching news outlets or scrolling through Facebook or YouTube. We must be guided to “Truth” by the Holy Spirit.
If there were ever a time when “Vertical Truth” was a necessity, it is now! “Vertical Truth” not only guides us through what is happening now, but it also equips and empowers us for the “Things” to come. It is this “Vertical Truth” that the Holy Spirit offers us. It is a truth that liberates (John 8:32).
Without the Holy Spirit, we wander aimlessly through the fog of opinions and information but never arrive at the prize of Truth. If we are to do more than just follow the direction of the herd, we must condition the ears of our hearts to listen, trust, and follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is a faithful and reliable guide to Truth.
Life Application: Close the door to the opinions around you. And then: Pray, Listen, Trust, and Follow!
Prayer: Holy Spirit, I open my heart to your guidance now. And even if all opinions are traveling south, I will trust and follow you north!
