DAN 3 OD 6

Dr. Ted Esler

President, Missio Nexus

"Well, I think that we all know that right now we are in a very divisive time, and as a result, unity has become much more important. Even though we're united in Christ, there are still many different perspectives and many different ways of practicing our faith. And so by highlighting and focusing on what we do have in common, we can be unified. But if we particularize on the differences, it is going to be a challenge.

Jesus’ sacrifice was not for many of the secondary things that we tend to focus on that creates division in the church. Now I realize that something that may be a secondary issue for the next person is a primary issue for one person. But if we were able to really focus on the most basic elements of the gospel and let that be the thing that unites us, unity is certainly possible. And I would suggest many of the political differences that we are facing today, and many of the things that COVID has highlighted as distinctions and different viewpoints in our culture, really are secondary issues."... watch the video for the full interview.

Once you watch the video and read the bible references, spend time with the Lord reflecting on the following:

·  What are the core elements of the gospel?

·  What role does “religion” have in creating confusion around these elements?

·  Do the different churches in your city have relationships with each other? Do they pray together, love/support each other, or work together to bring the light of Jesus into your city? If not, ask Holy Spirit to show you what would happen to both your local church and your city if they did.
