Recover Your Identity as a Child of God

DAN 4 OD 7

Integrity

Integrity is the acknowledgment that I am responsible for the stewardship of my life and the things God has given me. I am responsible for the way I live and express dignity and respect.

Another of our values, as children of God, is integrity. Through integrity, I am held accountable. I understand that I cannot keep living in the same way, and must allow the Holy Spirit in me to generate the transformation necessary to walk in these three values. Integrity enables me to see myself without deceit, so that by the power of the Spirit of God, the characteristics of the new creation, dignity, and respect, can be developed in me.

Integrity does not deceive us with a mask of religiosity, to make us think that we are perfect and do not need God’s work in our lives. As a matter of fact, wearing a mask causes us to forego dignity and disregard respect. We live a life devoid of the fruit of justice.

When I offend someone, I have an opportunity to evaluate myself and see that I have not been living according to the right level of dignity. When I am a person of integrity, I recognize my flaws; therefore, the value of integrity is key in generating a transformation. If I am not a person of integrity, I may say that there is nothing to change in my life because I am “perfect.”

I recognize, through integrity, what God needs to change in my life. I can see whether I have overlooked my own or someone else’s dignity.

When I walk in dignity, respect, and integrity, I can evaluate myself every time someone does something that offends me, notice the cause of my offense, and assess if it was me who committed a wrongful action. When we do not walk in respect and we are not people of integrity, we tend to blame others. We deflect guilt and do not recognize what is wrong with us.

Integrity makes us meditate on the details and attitudes we have towards others. Jesus said, “And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?” I am not the Holy Spirit. It is not my job to remove the speck from someone else’s eye, but to concentrate on the process of God’s transformation in my life. Integrity helps me acknowledge my strengths and weaknesses, so I can listen, evaluate, and recognize.

Recover Your Identity as a Child of God

Pleasing God in all we do has to do with being created in His image. Bearing fruit has to do with being created to His likeness and is a result of His life. I please God because I am made in His image; I do His works, not mine. We are often inconsistent in our behavior because we do not know our identity. God wants to restore our identity.
