Finding Purpose, Hope and Joy Through Jesus’ BirthUzorak
Day 18 – Angels’ Joy
In the culture where this event occurred, angels were exalted and mysterious. Shepherds were simple, normal people. This passage shares a time when the exalted angels visited the lowly shepherds, proclaiming great joy!
They declared that Jesus’ birth wasn’t just for the divine or for the shepherds—it was for all people! All people in all history would be impacted by this event!
“Do not be afraid,” the angel said. The gospel brings joy, not fear. Joy isn’t something we earn; it’s not something we deserve. Joy comes in the message shared by the angels that day—Jesus has come to save the world. The angel called Jesus “Lord,” a name used for Holy God Himself. The heavenly baby announcement declared that Jesus is God, with all power and authority of God.
As if the one angel wasn’t enough, an entire angel choir shows up to praise God—“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
In an unlikely place on the hills outside of Bethlehem, God brushed away fear and brought great joy to the world! Join the great company of angels and shout His joy today—“Glory to God in the highest!”
