Uncluttered - Free Your Space, Schedule, and SoulUzorak
Day 14: Conclusion
It turns out that there are no small things in the economy of God. In our year of uncluttering we’ve discovered anew that God cares about sparrows and lilies, about toy cars and garages, about calendars and phones, because God cares about us, and each of these things can draw us closer to Him or distract us from the work of building His kingdom and the joy of living as His beloved.
While we aren’t completely successful each and every moment, we have discovered good and heartening news along the way: it gets easier. It really does! Uncluttering gets quicker and simpler and more effortless because we’ve begun to develop patterns as a family, hard-won habits that continue to shape us even when we aren’t as attentive or intentional as we’d like to be.
God is at work, friends. In you, in me, in our families, in the world. He is here. We are here. Let us notice. And in our newly uncluttered lives, maybe, with His help, we can even take part in this beauty and grace, too.
Reflection/Discussion Questions
- What has the most rewarding part of uncluttering been for you? Which element has proved the most challenging? Why?
- Which area have you made the most progress in—stuff, schedule, or soul? Which area remains the biggest work in progress?
- What is one thing you have learned about God through your Uncluttered journey? What is one thing that surprised you?
- Have we somehow ‘arrived’ as perfectly uncluttered people with perfectly peaceful souls? No, we have not. But, if we will never “make it” as fully uncluttered people, why do we continue pursuing a simpler life at all?
- How has simplifying helped put you in touch with the smaller, slower, simpler things of life? How has God met you in these little places with more of himself?
- Read Psalm 100 aloud as a concluding prayer of praise. How has uncluttering helped you connect more deeply with God’s joy and thanksgiving?
