Our Proverbs 31 is strong and secure. She has peace about the future and isn’t fearful. She is free to laugh and free to dream. 

“She is clothed in strength and dignity and she laughs without fear of the future.”

Consider: Continue fearlessly

When I consider fearlessness, I think of one of my favourite songs from the Uncharted album (From Freedom Church - 2014) is ‘Not alone’. Listen to these words:

‘Faith is an ocean carrying me. Your Word is wind in my sails, every breath that I breathe. Your voice in the distance is calling to me: “set a course for My love, continue fearlessly”. I am not alone, I am not alone. You’re my guiding light and my hope in the unknown. Faith is surrender to all that will be. Trusting that Your plans are for me despite what my eyes see. Your voice in the distance is calling to me: “set a course for My love, continue fearlessly”. Where you go, I will follow. Wherever You lead, with all of my heart I’ll do it fearlessly.’

Doing something fearlessly means no second guessing and no looking back. It means running at it with full force, trusting that God’s got it. 

Context: Why bother?

The Bible instructs us to “Fear not” 365 times. Yes, that’s one per day of the year. That’s a lot of verses on one topic, which tells us how strongly God feels about fear. 

We will all have times in our lives when we are scared and fearful. And that’s ok. We will all face overwhelming situations and we will all have difficult decisions to make. It’s not about the presence of fear, it’s about how we respond to that fear when it knocks on our door. Do you sink or do you swim? Do you give in to those feelings or emotions or do you focus your eyes on Jesus and fight through?

We do not need to fear. The fight we’re in has already been won. Jesus has the victory. He has gone before us. Our Saviour, our Conqueror and our Defender. We need only to call on His name.

• How can you practically anchor yourself and fix your gaze on Jesus when you’re faced with fear?
• What fears in your life do you need to take authority over? What one next step can you take towards this?
