Lent Devotional: RestoreUzorak
Restore: Carrying God’s heart
God’s heart is for the restoration of lives, relationships and communities, and he has chosen us, his church, as the means to see this come into reality.
Our Mean Bean Challenge is a tangible way for us to bring restoration through action, prayer and giving. In 2017, 1,000 people across the country were sponsored to eat nothing but rice and beans for just five days, raising over $250,000.
Lives were changed – lives of people like Lyson, who had to subsidise his family’s meals with pig feed, but now has a sustainable way to make a living, bringing an end to crippling food poverty. When we decide to act for those on the margins, for those who suffer injustice, poverty and hunger, we will see the God of justice bring hope, joy and tangible and lasting change.
Father, raise up men and women to carry your heart for justice, to see an end to hunger and poverty through prayer and action. May we be bolder and braver in all we do in your name. We pray and thank you for all who take the Mean Bean Challenge in 2018 – bless and inspire them as they act to help bring restoration and wholeness to those who suffer hunger and poverty today.
Amen.
