Even if -- a 5-Day Devotional About Trusting God, Even if Life HurtsShembull
Day Five: Even if… Our Hope Remains
"Even If" Conclusion:
Until my heart believes I won’t stop singing
And even if I don’t get another reason
You’re still good to me
I’ve heard the gospel summed up as this: God created the whole world. We messed it up. Jesus came and redeemed it, and one day, God will make it all brand new.
The pain that we experience in this life is real, and at times it’s hard to continue to walk through. But as we’ve studied this week, we know that God is not afraid of honesty as we face our pain. Instead, He draws in close to us, providing His comfort and goodness as we navigate the harsh realities of life here on Earth. We are not promised that we’ll escape pain and trouble, but as His children, we are promised His presence.
Above all, the Bible offers us an even greater hope and comfort. It is this hope that I cling to when I think of my mother. I believe, without a doubt, that I will meet her again. I believe that she is at rest in the arms of our Savior, and I believe, along with the rest of my loved ones who have gone before me, that we will all be reunited again one day. God gives us hope beyond our present circumstances. He gives us hope for a permanent future.
The future God has planned for us is great. It involves experiencing the utopia that we so long for: heaven. The new heaven and new earth to come are not just devoid of pain, trouble, or trial, they are full of His goodness, His glory, and our unlimited access to it. This is the good news; this is the gospel.
God’s goodness and mercy are still pursuing you, and one day, will overtake the darkness of this earth. Even if you don’t get another reason to bless Him in this life, know that He is now, and will forever be, good to you.
