Hope for Recovery: A 7-Day Plan for Those in RecoveryShembull
Day 5: Just Say “Yes!”
Nothing can change a life like blind obedience to God. It’s the birthplace of faith. When we put ourselves out there, when we take a risk to help another person or call to check on someone, God uses that willingness to bolster our souls and give us momentum to successfully tackle another day.
Saying “yes” is the attitude of someone completely surrendered to a new way of living.
Saying “yes” shows our community that we are truly different.
Saying “yes” demonstrates to God that we believe He’ll take care of us, no matter what.
I believe when we appear before glory, submitted to the Creator, He will look at us and as ask us these questions:
- Were you willing?
- Were you obedient?
- Did you say “yes”?
When God puts an opportunity your way, saying “yes” breaks down the anxiety that “no” built up inside you for so long. When you say “yes” to something new or something that challenges you, you take all the power out of the unknown and grab hold of your destiny with both hands. The outcome doesn’t matter: that’s God’s territory. All you are responsible for is obedience! It’s your job to say “yes” to what He puts in front of you. Say “yes” today!
Pray:
God, for so long I have been afraid to step out in faith and try something new. My addiction has locked me up in prison without a key. But today I am ready to break out and break free of these chains that have held me back for so long. Will you please give me the courage and the confidence to take these steps of faith and obedience? I need your strength and assurance. I know that, as I continue to turn my will over to yours through these actions, you will strengthen my dependence on you and teach me new things. I pray my mind and heart will be open to seeing and hearing all that you teach me through saying “yes” to your will and not my own. Amen.
