Signs of Jesus' ReturnShembull
Pretend Prophets and Misleading Messiahs
Jesus specifically emphasized the rise of false prophets, false teachers, and false Messiahs as His return drew near. Scripture speaks of Antichrists, the spirit of Antichrist, and the Antichrist himself (1 John 2:18, 4:3; Revelation 13). Deceivers have always been an active part of this evil world and will be until its end. Their satanic character has consistently been evident by their wickedness carried out blasphemously in the name of God. Consider the Inquisition or even today’s radical Islam both justifying indiscriminate murder beneath a mask of agenda-driven acts of reverence to God. The pages of history are written and stained with the blood of godly men and women.
The 20th century saw an extension of runaway error that maligned the truth while hiding in plain sight beneath a cloak of decency (2 Peter 2:22, Titus 1:14). In the west, aggressive anti-Christian forces, calling themselves ‘liberal,’ arose. Thousands of churches have become sources of unbelief, embracing a form of godliness but denying the power of God. Atheism is now rampant, rationalized, and justified. Superstitions have burrowed deeply into the hearts of men and women, taking root while the truth is suppressed. Spiritism, the paranormal, pantheistic, and mind-power cults have multiplied by the thousands. Other people profess to be Christians, championing their relationship with the Lord while denying every Christian truth, “deceiving and being deceived” (2 Timothy 3:13).
The ground is well prepared for any version of antichrist. He is waiting to welcome into his deceptive system, every Christ-denying cult, and every man-made religion, ready to shape them into a single universal antichristian organization complete with erroneous miracles, signs, wonders, and worst of all — lies that bear a striking resemblance to the truth. Everything is ready.

The signs Jesus described as “birth pangs,” signal His impending return as they unfold and shape the direction of history. Like labor pains, with mounting strength and frequency, they both usher at the end of the age and more importantly, herald the birth of another age — a glorious era where the King of kings physically governs the world for which He died.
