Flourish In Christ: 7-Day DevotionalShembull
Within minutes Job received the terrible news that his oxen, donkeys, and camels had were stolen, a fire killed sheep and servants, and a windstorm came and blew the house down, killing his children. Could you imagine receiving that news? Everything Job had worked for and loved were gone in a matter of minutes.
Trials, pain, and grief are inevitable. Burdens can feel unbearable. Hardships will come, but how do we flourish through the difficult times?
Often, our focus during trials is the here and now. We think of the pain, turmoil, and sadness of the present time. Our emotions cloud the character of God, and we ask ourselves, “God, where are you?” The problem is not the situation or that God doesn’t care. We must learn not to have an inward focus, instead, trust in the hope of our loving and good God who causes all things to work together for the good of those who love him.
During trials, focus on Him, remembering the hope set before you. Remember His promise, never leave you nor forsake you. God is the perfect creator of the universe, and we can trust that He is in control of our lives and does have a great and beautiful purpose for the current situation. Count the blessings of God rather than the trials. Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. You are a beloved child of God.
Jesus Christ could not have come to earth, live a perfect, sinless life, die on the cross for your sins, and overcome death without a great hope for the future. He had a purpose amid his sorrow, to save sinners. You can be confident God has a purpose for your trial and hardship as well.
What characteristics of God can you focus on to encourage your soul?
