You might not ever stop to think about how you are a fruit-bearing plant grown from the seed of the gospel. But yesterday’s focus on Jesus’ parable of the seed and soils might have caused pause and reflection.
With such cultivated Christians in mind, Paul’s letter to the Philippians rallies them (through today’s passage) to keep going. Don’t stop. Don’t waver. Don’t take a holiday from who they have become in Christ. As a Christian leader who loves and prays for them, Paul also wants them to continually take hold of their own faith and lifestyle.
When he is not around and when they are amid their “crooked and perverted generation”, these maturing Christians are to shine like stars and hold firm to the word of life. Yes, you’re right – there is plenty in that, for all of us.
