Faith and Worship

“Faith” in the original Greek language is the word “pistis,” which is “the conviction that God exists and is the creator and ruler of all things, the provider and bestower of eternal salvation through Christ” (Blue Letter Bible). While the Bible shows us numerous ways to offer pleasing worship to God, it is impossible to please God without faith. In other words, if we worship God but don’t believe, it means nothing.

One of the best ways we can worship God is by believing He is who He says He is. Worshipping through worship songs is powerful because it often requires us to sing things in faith. For example, we could sing, “I’m going to see a victory. I’m going to see a victory, for the battle belongs to you, Lord.” These words are not empty; they proclaim that, even though it hasn’t happened yet, you will see victory in an area where there’s a struggle. It takes faith to sing that and believe it!

As you go through your life worshipping God, remember to keep faith at the forefront of your mind. Worship takes the focus off of you and puts the focus back on God, the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2).

Anytime there’s doubt, worship your way to belief. Sing worship songs, pray, and quote Scriptures. Worship quietly and worship loudly. Worship alone and worship corporately. Offer your body as a living sacrifice to God while believing that God is already doing something amazing on your behalf!
