Biblical Innovators

‘These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.’

(Hebrews 11:39-40 NIV)

Now, you may be asking yourself throughout this devotional – this is all great and sounds wonderful, but how can I innovate anything? I don't have any new ideas for sharing my faith with anyone!

We need not fear this state of inadequacy. All we need to do is look back over our Bibles, through the scriptures and witness what God did through unassuming individuals who also had no idea that God was going to use them in such revolutionary ways.

Let’s look at the story of Noah.

‘Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.’

(Genesis 6:9 NIV)

Noah had a family and walked honourably with God in his days. This is how he is introduced to us in scripture. Not with grand accolades or mighty victories, simply a family man who was faithful in the eyes of God.

However, we know from the story of Noah and the ark that Noah was grafted into the mighty God-story and is even given mention in the heroes of the faith found in Hebrews 11.

I can only imagine what people in Noah’s day must have thought of the heavenly blueprint he was given by God and the long years he spent building a seemingly unnecessary ark.

This innovator of the faith disregarded the shame of others' taunts and carried on building something that had never been done before and would never exist again.

He innovated with the Father. He was never on his own. And neither are we.

I remember a clock that is on the wall in my dad’s office. It was so unusual, and I had never seen anything like it. I asked him one day - “where did you get that clock, dad?” he replied, “I made it.”

God doesn’t make copies. He employs each of his children uniquely to spread the Good News. It is His joy to do it this way!

And so, my final encouragement and charge to you is this: awaken the dreamer inside of you! Do not discount even the wildest of dreams that God has given you to make His name known in the earth. They may seem like nonsense to you, but I assure you, if they are Holy Spirit given and driven, they will reap the designated fruit for which they were given.

Consider, what lengths would you go to do obey God’s innovative plan for your life?

God bless you.
