REFLECTING ON THE SPIRIT OF FEAR OR COWARDICE

The verse we began with tells us that God has given us three crucial things: POWER, LOVE, AND SELF-DISCIPLINE (2 Timothy 1:7). But the enemy uses the “spirit of cowardice” or “spirit of fear” to prevent us from using these spiritual blessings God has given us.

A PERSON FILLED WITH FEAR cannot use the POWER God has given them. Fear makes them COWARDLY in facing life’s trials and difficulties (Deuteronomy 1:28).

The spirit of fear is a THIEF USED BY THE ENEMY, as it robs us of power when we allow it to weaken our faith in God’s promises and power.

Faith and fear share similar concepts:

  • Faith is: “The assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1).
  • Fear is: The uncertainty of what is expected and the doubt of what is unseen.

However, they differ greatly in focus:

  • Faith focuses on God and His power, while fear focuses on circumstances, dangers, and our own insecurities.

We can use the power God has given us when we trust that He protects and strengthens us, even in life’s worst circumstances (Psalm 46:1-2).
