The Need

In Romans 10:14-15, the apostle Paul presents an issue: people can’t believe in Jesus if they haven’t heard of Him. For someone to believe in Jesus, they need to hear about Him! Similarly in Matthew 9:37-38, Jesus tells His disciples that the harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. He continues by telling his disciples to pray for more laborers to be sent out. Jesus’ metaphor reflects a spiritual harvest waiting for many people ready to receive and believe the gospel, but a shortage of those who will go out and share the gospel with them. The problem is clear: there are a lot of people who need to hear the gospel, but not enough sharing the good news of Jesus.

We are surrounded by people that God loves dearly but don’t know it yet. And as Christians, we know how amazing our God is, as well as how bad life is without Him. We serve a gracious and kind God who chose to leave heaven and live a perfect life on earth, die on the cross as a perfect sacrifice for our sins, and rise again and invite us into a new life with Him. This is the good news of Jesus Christ and so many people need to hear it.

In Revelation 7:9-10, we are given a beautiful, prophetic image of people from every nation, tribe, and tongue praising God in Heaven for His gift of salvation. This is not merely an image, but a future reality that God desires. God wants people from every tribe and tongue to hear the message of salvation and right now, the harvest is plentiful. The question is, are you willing to be the laborer that Jesus’ disciples prayed for?

Get Up and Go

When someone calls you, you should respond and answer. In the same way, when God calls us, we need to respond to Him. While all believers in Christ Jesus have unique callings, we also share a calling to go and share the gospel of Christ with all people. The call of God over our lives requires movement on our part. This 3-day devotional explores the need, the call, and the response of all Christians.
