Where does God want me to be?

We humans tend to want to leave traces so that they will last in time when we are gone, it is a kind of need to give meaning to our life. The question is: where?

The funny thing is that, on many occasions, it can be hard to find it. Suddenly, we find ourselves working at something that gives us a livelihood but we are not passionate about, doing activities just by imitation and serving in church just to fit in or because someone told us we should, but we feel that none of this moves the needle of destiny to leave a mark and find meaning.

It's as if even good deeds feel empty.

Some look for purpose in business, others in one of the many variants of the arts or sports, in travel, in relationships, but still can't find it.

And, believe me, it absolutely makes sense to feel that way.

Because the purpose for which we were born lies not in what we do, but in why we do things.

In Mark 3:14 we see that, before sending the disciples out to do things and giving them an apostolic title, Jesus called them to be with him. And in John 14:3, we see him announcing his departure in order to come back for us to be together for eternity.

If the first thing He calls us to do is to be with Him and the last thing He will do is to take us with Him, won't that be the key to feeling complete? Won't our most meaningful actions be the consequence of being with Him?
