Holy and Whole: Singleness God's WayChikamu
As a single Christian woman desiring marriage, you hold tightly to the promises of God, trusting Him to bring the right person into your life at the right time. In this season of waiting, guard your heart against idolatry. Idolatry is not just bowing to a physical idol; it can be placing anything above God in your life, including your desire for marriage.
Reflecting on my own journey, there was a time when I unknowingly slipped into idolatry. My longing for marriage became all-consuming, overshadowing my relationship with God. I found myself thinking more about my future husband than anything else. This misplaced priority hindered my spiritual growth and clouded my understanding of God's timing and purpose for my life.
God, in His grace and mercy, revealed this to me. Through prayer and self-reflection, I realized that my desire for marriage had become an idol. I repented, asking God to help me refocus my heart on Him. This turning point allowed me to move ahead with a renewed perspective, putting God first in every area of my life.
As you pursue the promises of God, remember that He desires to be the center of your life. Your longing for marriage is natural and good, but it should never outrank your relationship with Him. Trust that God knows your heart's desires and has a perfect plan for you.
Here are some steps to ensure you keep God at the center while waiting for His promises:
1. Daily Devotion: Spend time in God's Word and prayer daily. Let His voice be the loudest in your life.
2. Guard Your Thoughts: Be mindful of what occupies your mind. Ensure that your thoughts are aligned with God's will and not solely on your desires.
3. Seek Accountability: Surround yourself with friends and mentors who will encourage you to keep your focus on God.
4. Pursue Purpose: While waiting for marriage, seek to fulfill God's purpose for this season. There are unique growth opportunities that are available to you now.
5. Develop Healthy Hobbies: Engage in activities that bring joy and fulfillment. Pursuing hobbies and interests can help you maintain a balanced life and prevent you from obsessing over your desires.
6. Set God-Centered Goals: Set short-term and long-term goals that align with God's purpose for your life. This can help you stay focused on what God is calling you to do now, rather than just waiting for the future.
7. Engage in Spiritual Disciplines: Create a fasting lifestyle. This will deepen your relationship with God and help you discern His voice more clearly.
8. Trust His Timing: Remember that God's timing is perfect. He knows when you are ready for the blessings He has in store.
By integrating these additional steps into your life, you can strengthen your commitment to keeping God at the center and ensure that your desire for marriage does not overshadow your relationship with Him.
In your personal journey, you may find moments where your focus drifts. If that happens, don't be discouraged. Return to God, repent, and realign your heart with His. He is faithful to guide you back on track.
Think it Over
Has the promise of marriage become an idol for you?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, Guard me against idolatry. Help me to keep You at the center of my heart and to trust in Your perfect timing for my life. In Jesus' name, Amen
