God's Promises to YouChikamu
The Bible's First Promise
“I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” (Genesis 3:15)
This promise is the first one made to humanity after they disobeyed God. It encapsulates the entire gospel and the core of the covenant of grace. It has already been largely fulfilled. Jesus Christ, the descendant of the woman, suffered a painful blow to his heel, and it was indeed grievous. The final defeat of the serpent will be even more dreadful!
This was effectively accomplished when Jesus removed sin, conquered death, and shattered Satan's power. However, its complete fulfillment awaits Christ's second coming and the Day of Judgment. For us, this promise serves as a prediction that we will face afflictions from the forces of evil in our human nature, resulting in bruises to our heel. Yet, in Christ, who crushes the serpent's head, we will ultimately triumph.
Throughout our lives, we may encounter the first part of this promise firsthand, through the temptations of the devil and the cruelty of the ungodly, who are his followers. They may hurt us to the point where we limp from our wounded heel. However, let us firmly grasp the second part of the promise, and we will not be discouraged. By faith, let us rejoice in the assurance that we will continue to reign in Christ Jesus, the descendant of the woman.
