Growing in the Knowledge of God

DAY 5 OF 7

Drawing Near to God

“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” (James 4:8)

The closer we draw to God, the more generously He reveals Himself to us. Just as a father eagerly runs to meet his prodigal child, Noah extends his hand to welcome the returning dove into the ark, and a loving husband hastens to be with his wife when she seeks his company, so does God graciously await and come to meet us as we draw near to Him.

Have you ever noticed that verse in Isaiah 58:9? There, the Lord seems to offer Himself fully to His people, saying, "Here I am," as if to ask, "What do you need from me? How can I help you? I am ready to bless you." With such an invitation, why would we hesitate to approach? God is close at hand to forgive, bless, comfort, assist, revive, and deliver us. Let us make it our primary goal to draw near to God. Once we accomplish this, everything else falls into place. If we seek closeness with others, they may eventually tire of us and depart, but if we seek the Lord alone, His disposition toward us never changes; instead, He draws nearer to us with deeper and more joyful fellowship.

So, dear friend, let us come closer to God, who eagerly awaits us and willingly draws near to us.
