Sonship - Understanding the Believer's Identity in ChristChikamu
How to Come into Sonship
Sonship is received through faith in Christ, not by works. Understanding how to come into sonship empowers believers to embrace their identity and walk in the fullness of their inheritance. Sonship is not earned but received through faith in Jesus Christ. Believers become children of God and heirs of His promises by believing in Christ's finished work.
Reject the lies of the enemy and embrace the truth of your sonship.
'For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.'-Romans 8:14-17 NKJV
Sonship is a gift that is received not earned. Sonship is received by believing in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, otherwise known as the Gospel, the good news of grace.'But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.'-John 1:12-13 NKJV
We become benefactors of the reconciliation of men to God when we believe in our hearts and confess with our mouths that Jesus is Lord. At this point, we experience salvation, by receiving the Spirit of God into our hearts; the Spirit of Sonship (Romans 8:15).
We see through the Old Testament that men could never please God on their own, so God gave himself (the Son: Christ Jesus) as a holy sacrifice to please himself and released himself to abide in us as the Holy Spirit.
Therefore, as a believer, you are no longer the old you, you have the Spirit of God in you. The very same Spirit that dwells in Jesus dwells in you. This Sonship has nothing to do with gender, but with a state of heart and your identity with God.
Since we could do nothing to please God or earn Sonship, we must understand that God did not bring us into a relationship with him so we can try to please him. He is already pleased with us, he already loves us - it was His love that triggered Jesus' sacrificial death for us. It is essential to understand this because while servants seek to serve and please, Sons understand that they have already been accepted. Religious duty cannot trigger Sonship. Therefore, Sons do not act to please God; they act in response to the love of God for them.
The relationship between God and believers is not that of a Monarch and servants but that of a Father and Sons. God never sees the believer in the light of his flaws, he always sees the believer in the light of what he has done for them.
Start seeing yourself the way God sees you, you are a son!
