Day 5: Fostering Gratitude and Contentment
(For this prayer, whenever you see "[child]," sub in the name of the child you are praying for).
Lord, I pray for Godly contentment in [child]—a virtue that can only come through gratitude. It is so hard when [his/her] friends are getting things we cannot afford. My child may not have the best of everything, but [he/she] has everything needed for life, godliness, and good works (2 Peter1:3; 2 Corinthians 9:8). I pray that [he/she] would not compare [his/her] own situation against [his/her] peers or covet that which is not [his/hers].
Bring it to [child’s] attention when others have less than [he/she] does; may [he/she] see it as an opportunity to practice generosity. I pray You would give [him/her] the eyes to see the nontangible gifts You have provided: a loving family, safety, security, and a peaceful home with parents who love [him/her]. Not every child can say the same. May [he/she] value what You value and only yearn for that which will aid in advancing Your Kingdom.
Honest Habit
Before bed every night (or at the dinner table), have each person say what he or she is most thankful for that day.
