Justice
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Father God, You tell us in Your Word to learn to do right, seek justice, defend the oppressed, take up the cause of the fatherless, and plead the case of the widow (Isaiah 1:17). You have also declared that we are not to pervert justice or show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but to judge our neighbors fairly (Leviticus 19:15). For You do not show favoritism (Romans 2:11).
We humbly confess that although we know this, we often find ourselves being drawn towards people who fit within our comfort zones and show partiality by our actions (and inactions). And although we believe in the idea of fair justice and caring for the poor, we tend to unfairly judge people based on our unhealthy biases. Please forgive us for the times when we do this, and prompt us through Your Word and Spirit when we go astray with our thoughts or words that we might bring ourselves back into alignment with Your ways. As we consider the motivations that drive our lives, please align our hearts with Yours so that we may pursue righteousness.
ONE QUESTION
Have I taken tangible steps to defend those who are oppressed, or do I simply acknowledge the concept without action?
