HE SHALL BE CALLED
The other day, I was on a video call with a friend to catch up with one another since we hadn’t spoken in a while. Her camera was focused on her face the entire time, so I was surprised at the end of our call when she adjusted her camera downward and revealed a baby bump. She was in her third trimester, and I was so excited about the addition to her new family. Of course, one of my first questions was, “What are you going to name the child?“ This is a common question people will ask you when you are expecting a child.
In Isaiah 9:6, we learn that a Child will be born who will be the long-awaited Messiah. Then, without us having to ask the obvious, this prophecy reveals to us the names of our coming Messiah:
- Wonderful Counselor
- Mighty God
- Everlasting Father
- Prince of Peace
As you see, each name consists of an adjective and a noun. We don’t only learn the Messiah’s name, but we also learn about His significance to us.
He's our Counselor, God, Father, and Prince, and He gives us wisdom, protection, faithfulness, and peace. He doesn't just have titles, but the adjectives explain His relationship to us. He isn't just any king. He's our king, and with that comes a promise to greatly look forward to this advent season as we learn more about each of His names over the next few days.
