Purify Your Mind Series (Part 2) by Joe KirbyChikamu
Draw Near to Him
A couple of weeks ago, my eighteen-month-old son made me the happiest man in the world. He said, “Daddy, cuddle,” and climbed across the bed to a semi-conscious me and gave me a big hug. There is no way I would ever say to my boy, “Go away,” or “Not now, I’m busy.” No, it filled my heart with happiness that my child wanted to draw near to me.
You are God’s child, and He wants you to draw near to Him like a little child. I wonder, what is your prayer life like? Do you give God the very best hours of the day, the very crème de la crème, or do you give Him the cigarette butts of the day?
I cannot emphasize this enough—you will never overcome this besetting sin without daily wrestling with God in prayer. If we are prayerless, we are graceless. But never get the idea that prayer is a burden. To experience a Father-and-child relationship with God every day, to pour your heart out to Him, and then to know the God of the universe is listening, is the most amazing feeling in the world!
But it starts with you taking a step toward God and He will take a step toward you. If I didn’t speak to my wife for a week what would my marriage look like? Terrible! Yet sometimes we think we can ignore God for weeks and expect a spiritual breakthrough. The School of Life teaches us to draw near first, and then we will see a breakthrough.
