DAY FOUR

Believing God by Rocky Fleming

Scripture: “And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them. And he marveled because of their unbelief.” (Mark 6:5-6 ESV)

Thought: We have two choices. We either believe or we do not believe Jesus. There is no partial or limited belief when it comes to Jesus, for that would be unbelief. We can have little faith and it will move mountains, but we can’t move a molehill with unbelief. Little faith is still belief, and a little faith goes a long way. Unbelief can’t get out of the starting block. Unbelief can even prevent Jesus from doing some mighty works in our life.

Application: So, is your unbelief keeping Jesus from doing some great works in and through your life? As an example, many pastors and ministry leaders burn out as a result of being overworked and underappreciated for their efforts. They get greatly discouraged. But not just those guys. We all get discouraged when our best efforts seem to not be enough. Maybe the problem lies with the fact that we are not really getting the best effort available on the problem? We might be giving our best effort but not bringing the best effort for the problem. There is a difference.

As you interact with the truth of the scripture above, look at how Jesus was prevented from doing a mighty work, as if healing a few people was not a great work? Think of what He would have done if they had a rock-solid, sold-out belief in who He is and what He could do? Is there any possibility that there is something in your life preventing a great work that He wants to do in your life? It might be obvious to you, but do you need the courage and commitment to get it removed? It might be a blind spot or hidden condition that you are not aware of. Take some time right now through prayer and ask God to help you see, to know, and to do something about that which will allow His complete power to fall over you and your life.

Q: After you prayed, do you feel God gave you an answer?

Q: Can you clearly identify any hindrance of unbelief in your life?

Response: Make a determination right now to root out that which debilitates your walk with Christ. Allow Him to walk into your life and, unlike the people of Nazareth whose unbelief prevented Him from doing a mighty work, gladly receive Him with a belief that welcomes Him in. Allow Him to do mighty works by believing Him. Then He can do a mighty work in you.

Learning to trust Jesus and taking His promises to heart takes time. It is a daily surrender of our agenda to Him, our plans to Him, and the outcome of any problem to Him. It is up to you and me to believe Him and trust Him. We will never find the peace of God that He promises until we simply take Him at His word.
