Day Two: The Same Spirit Lives in Us
God can meet us even in the most mundane tasks throughout our day. One day as I was preparing dinner for my family, the Lord reminded me of Romans 8:11, which says:
“If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.”
I began to realize I was not living every day with the awareness of the truth of this scripture. I began to think about what would happen if the body of Christ walked in the awareness that the same spirit that raised Christ Jesus from the dead dwells within us. In Acts 2, we read how the Holy Spirit came at Pentecost, and ever since we have had the gift of the Holy Spirit indwelling within God’s people richly. Jesus said in John 16:7, “Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you.” From this scripture, we see that one of the names of the Holy Spirit is “Helper.” When we are feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, or afraid, the power of the Holy Spirit helps us and reminds us of the word of God! When we don’t know how to pray, Romans 8:26 says “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”
How would our lives look if we lived knowing that the eternal, sovereign Spirit of God lives in the people of God and guides us, teaches us, helps us, empowers us to do all that God has called us to do in our lifetime? I believe our lives would radically improve if we continue to remind ourselves to walk according to the Spirit and not according to the flesh.
