Shabbat (S1-E2)Chikamu

Authenticity
Through Isaiah, God promised that the Messiah would bring freedom to the captive and good news to the poor. Mary experienced that firsthand. After meeting Jesus, her life changed completely – and one of the first signs of that change was simple, yet profound: she opened her home.
In The Chosen, we see her prepare a Shabbat meal, uncertain and inexperienced, yet eager to live out her new faith. She invites guests, and – unexpectedly – Jesus Himself joins her.
The scene is beautiful and sincere. A woman once rejected and isolated, now welcomes others with joy. She is learning what it means to be real and authentic at her own table.
Authenticity in relationships
Mary’s transformation also reshapes how she relates to others. When she meets Nicodemus, she acknowledges that he was not the one who brought restoration – and yet she does not condemn him. Her freedom allows her to extend grace. Nicodemus is left curious and humbled by her story.
Mary cannot yet explain who Jesus truly is, but she knows this: He changed everything.
She has not yet heard the good news, but she has met Him in person. That encounter gives her the space to open up to other people and to truly welcome them.
Authenticity in obedience
A real encounter with Jesus always leads to action. Mary’s response to her encounter with Jesus is obedience. She begins keeping Shabbat and welcoming others. It may not look perfect yet, but it is genuine.

Lord, make my heart genuine and open. I want to meet You, because in an encounter with You something happens. Give me an open and perceptive heart. Amen.
