Deliverance: Releasing the Past and Moving Forward

Reflect

When Joseph’s brothers showed up asking for food, he could’ve easily taken revenge on them for all they’d done to him. Instead, he chose to forgive. The will of God is often beyond our understanding. Joseph might’ve felt a sense of temporary satisfaction by retaliating against his brothers. But vengeance wouldn’t have lead to healing.

We have the power to make the same kind of choice, releasing the past and finding freedom. When we can’t seem to figure out the next right thing, daily faithfulness means letting love and humility guide our response. This way of thinking honors God and creates opportunities to heal.

We have to be willing to let go of the past before we can embrace God’s healing and promise.

React

1. Who do you need to forgive?

2. Are you holding onto something that is keeping you from embracing God’s grace?

3. Do you have an opportunity right now to choose humility over revenge?
