YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT!
A few years ago, we found out our youngest daughter had celiac disease - that’s the severe allergic reaction to many wheat products that causes your insides to basically shut down and stop giving you nutrients from the food you eat. We decided as a family to change all of our diets to accommodate the needs of our daughter - committing to just eating fruits and vegetables and very lean meats and fish. Now, let me stop and tell you right now, we were big fans of Friday night pizza, and pasta, and comfort foods, and lots of sugary desserts. Well, this diet drastically changed our lives in more ways than one - for the good. And we all felt much better. Things that we thought were part of normal life (like stomach cramps, skin rashes, or heartburn) just disappeared. We are all much healthier as a result of going back to the basics of what our bodies needed. Honestly, we didn’t know we needed to change our habits. But we’re glad we did.
So it is with God’s word. You’re beginning a journey to walk with Him and get to know Him. The goal is to put aside all of the “bad” things that invade our lives, or that we sometime choose to do without us realizing the damage it’s doing to us. Now is the time to focus on God’s word, reading it daily and ingesting its meaning for our lives. Now is the time to talk to God and follow Him in his direction for your life. Making this kind of change can be mentally challenging, but the results will be better spiritual health.
ASK: Invite God to join you in this time.

WRITE: Make of list of these three areas in your life; 1) the good things you do, 2) the neutral things you do, 3) the bad things you do. Be honest with yourself. I would suggest dropping everything in category #3. And maybe everything in #2 also. Focus on the things that are good for you. And you may even need to cut off some things on the bottom of your good list too. The point is to establish a real “Check” for yourself that you are paying attention to the things that matter for you according to God.
MEDITATE: Pray over this list to figure out what needs to stay and what needs to go. Ask God for His help in determining the priorities, and then ask Him to help you accomplish these goals.
