Secrets of a Successful Servant of GodChikamu
Obeying God
Samuel lived a life that demonstrates how available he was to serve God at all times. Furthermore, he was conscious of hearing God's voice. Thirdly, despite his fear, he informed Eli of the truth about what God had revealed to him. His life was a product of such integrity. Because the Lord was with him, Samuel could rely on everything he said.
When Samuel first heard from God as a child, it was not a one-time event. It was simply the first of many times that Samuel would hear and communicate the word of God and his name, and all of Israel, from Dan (that's the extreme north) to Beersheba (extreme south of Israel), would recognize Samuel as an established prophet of the Lord. His name became famous in all of Israel. He never asked for such fame, but when he was faithful, God raised him. When you have a consistent relationship with God, he will lift you up in all time. All you have to do is humble yourself. Beloved, if you accept God's work with the motive of becoming famous, I urge you not to do that. Samuel faithfully served God and the nation of Israel as it transitioned from the system of judges to the rulership of kings. Men did not choose Samuel; he was chosen by God himself. He was not only a prophet but also a judge and a priest. In addition, in his great concern for the nation, he sometimes would be in deep intercessory prayer for them (1 Samuel 7:7-8; 15:11).
Samuel's life serves as an example for us today. His obedience to God from the time he was a youth, his faith (Hebrews 11:32), and his willingness to intercede for others (Jeremiah 15:1) make him a role model for us. Wait upon God to elevate you. Being successful doesn't mean you have everything in this world. Rather, being faithful till the end, finishing the race and receiving the reward are the real marks of success.
