10 Pillars : Building a Life in GodChikamu
Idolatry is an abomination to God. This is the ultimate sin! If we can describe it that way. Behind the idea of idols is the belief that gods inhabit small figurines, so devotees have their gods with them. Yahweh cannot be reduced to an idol! He is greater even than the universe because he has created everything, so nothing can look like him and certainly not reduce it so. God asks that his people not make idols and not prostrate themselves before these idols or statues.
This is still forbidden; we cannot believe that an idol can represent God! This goes against the word that also declares WE are the temple of God.
Indeed, many of us have understood this, and we no longer have idols or statues that we pray to.
But what about the idols of our century, our generation, or our culture?
We have "built" other virtual idols who have taken the place of God, and we undoubtedly prostrate before them! Idols like money, social status, singers, athletes, famous people, sports, leisure, work, television, cinema, movies, etc.
- How would you describe your life or your inclination for idolatry?
- What idols do you have that often receive your worship?
- Are you able to discern between spiritual idolatry?
- Do you have 'addictions' or 'devotions,' attractions, or preferences? Do they not take up too much space in your life?
- How important is the word of God to compare to the other 'hobbies' you have?
- Who has the first place in your life? The job? The husband? Wife? Social status? Money? The bank account? Family? God?
Let's take a moment to review our relationship with God. Let's analyze our lives and look for the idols we have built, set up, and worshipped. Let us destroy them to turn to the true God and adore him alone.
Let us ask the Holy Spirit to open our eyes and the way to true worship of God by his Son, Jesus. Let's ask God to help us get rid of those idols that lead us to ruin.
Let's restore this Pillar in our life! Let's take away all forms of idolatry from our lives!
