The Price of Sin

There is a price to pay to rescue a generation, restore a nation, and revitalize a civilization. Under God, we must “fight the good fight of faith” (1 Tim. 6:12) that we may have this testimony, that we “will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished by the words of faith of good (sound) doctrine” (1 Tim. 4:6).

“I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me” (Ps. 51:5). Therefore, human persons are born into sin. They are, by nature, wicked, corrupt, vile, and vain. Who has ever had to teach a child to lie? One would sooner be required to plant weeds in a garden.

The blood of Calvary’s crucified Lamb did not just save us “from” sin but saved us “in” our sin. Oh, how desperately depraved we were—verifiable enemies of God. In His holy sight, we were criminals, traitors, and rebels. Your Bible speaks over and over of us being at enmity with God, which means deep-rooted anger, irreconcilable hostility, or being at war. Sinners are not people to invite to a Sunday morning show and attempt to teach them to be better people. Instead, let us, with the fervor of the Holy Ghost, the victory of His blood-soaked cross, proclaim as did the apostle Paul to the church at Ephesus, “that He might reconcile both to God into one body through the cross, thereby slaying the enmity” (Eph. 2:16, emphasis added).

Take a cursory glance at Romans 5:8, and get ready for a deluge of Holy Ghost rain: “While we were yet sinners...” — that prophesies we shall not always be so because God Almighty has demonstrated His love toward us due to His only begotten Son’s unspeakable gift and supreme sacrifice. The blood of the Son of God was the propitiation (the price paid) to reconcile us to God and God to us. The modern church must quit its emphasis on positive thinking, emotional singing, and “it’s all about my happiness” on this planet. It must cease its emphasis on this life and become conscious of eternity.
