Today Is Going to Be Another Good DayChikamu
Today is going to be a good day because every day that God gives us breath is a good day.
I’ve lived through the valley of depression, from a place where I believed I was joy-immune, and I’ve walked the journey with cancer and chronic pain yet had God fighting for me every day of the journey. Each day he gives us with breath in our lungs and a song of praise in our hearts is a blessing to be used for his glory.
While trials and troubles rarely feel like a blessing when we are stuck in the muck and the pain, I’ve learned that life’s greatest difficulties are a perfect setup for God to do the impossible and prove his faithfulness. He has never broken a promise yet, and it’s because of his consistent track record that we can believe for a good day despite our feelings and grueling circumstances.
Today I speak from a place of victory where I can enjoy all the simple joys that God provides to delight my heart. When we choose to focus on God and intentionally look for the simple joys he places all around us, our heart grows lighter in gratitude. Whether it’s the belly laugh of a baby, new spring flowers beginning to bloom, or the seemingly weightless glide of a butterfly, God gives us these simple joys to delight his children and to teach us about him.
There were many years when I sowed immeasurable tears only to now reap his joy—not because life is easy, or troubles no longer arise, but because I’ve come to trust God’s character even when I can’t see his hand moving in my situation. Since God doesn’t play favorites, I know that what God did for me, he longs to do for you.
God’s love, his Word, and his promises are offered to all. Yet, the Holy Spirit is a gentleman who, while he reminds us of all truth, he never forces himself on us. It’s up to us, in our free will, to choose to accept, believe, and trust him and all he has promised.
Father, you are a good and gracious God. Only you would think to offer the blessing of joy in exchange for the pain of our tears. Thank you for not shaming us for our tears, but instead considering them so valuable that you would keep them in your bottle. What the enemy intends for evil, in your loving kindness, you use for our good and for your glory. Help us to keep our eyes on you, for therein is the fullness of joy. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
