Day#7. The peace of God, the normal state of the Christian
The peace of God is supernatural, it surpasses all intelligence. It is this peace that allowed Jesus to sleep in the boat in the middle of the storm!
Peace is a very important part of the kingdom of God: Jesus by his sacrifice has reconciled us with the Father and therefore, we have peace with God. While most people seek peace by all means, it is the normal state of a Christian.
Apostle Paul mentions that the peace of Christ supersedes (or presides, depending on the version) all things in our hearts (Col 3:15). We must therefore be attentive to the peace of God in our hearts. When the Holy Spirit wants to draw our attention or warn us of danger, He can take His peace away from us. The absence of peace should therefore be a sign that helps us to make decisions.
But beware, if the absence of peace is like a stop sign, its presence is not a green light. Indeed, one can be deceived, have a hardened heart, be seduced, be tempted, or appease their conscience or intelligence with a conformist or reasonable choice. In each of these situations, a false peace can make us believe that we are in God's plan.
So here is my advice. If you are not at peace with a decision, pause and seek God's guidance. Perhaps you have an imaginary fear that will be dismissed by God, or maybe God is pointing you in another direction or simply asking you to wait.
It often happens when we make a decision that appeals to our faith, a decision that creates an inner storm, like a fight between our spirit and our flesh. Peace then comes once the right decision has been made.
Therefore, consider peace, be attentive to it, but do not base your decisions solely on peace.
It also happens that God plants a conviction in our heart; we cannot explain it, but it is as if it is engraved in us. This is completely biblical, but here again, this inner condition must be validated by confirmations. Here is the reason: a good decision does not mean a path without obstacles. You must therefore be able to rely on the word of God, because an emotion (like peace) or a conviction can evaporate in hardship, while our faith can be firmly based on the word of God.
