Hannah: Trusting God With Your Problems

DAY 4 OF 9

Hannah poured out her heart before God

Yesterday, we read that Hannah was not understood by her husband and was constantly provoked by Peninnah. To whom could she go to unburden her heart? She went to the Lord. The temple of the Lord was the perfect place to withdraw from other people and spend time in His presence. We too can seek God’s presence — and not just as a backup plan when human helpers fall short. He should be the first One we go to!

Hannah wept and prayed; she poured out her heart before God. She was completely honest with the Holy One. “All along I have been speaking out of my great anxiety and vexation” (1 Samuel 1:16. ESV), she explained when Eli the priest wondered what she was doing. Psalm 62:8 encourages us to do the same: “Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.”

Moreover, Hannah asked God to give her a son. She trusted that He was able to do so, despite her infertility. He had closed her womb, therefore He could also open it.

How about you? Do you trust that God is able to give you what you need?

About this Plan

Hannah: Trusting God With Your Problems

The book of First Samuel records the story of Hannah, an Israelite woman. Her life circumstances were humiliating and demoralizing. But the Bible pictures her as an exemplary, God-fearing woman. This reading plan takes Hannah’s life story as an example for our own lives. Do read with us!
