Day 9

The Rut

In the U.S., there are approximately one million car accidents and 200 deaths each year because vehicles collide with deer. During mating season, known as the rut, deer are twice as likely to get hit by a car. Why is this?

During the rut, deer are more focused on sex and are less cautious. The rut is also the time of year that deer are easiest for hunters to kill. Sex makes deer take more risks and make dumber decisions.

As mentioned in the Addicted Brain video yesterday, people also make dumb decisions when it comes to sex. Their repeated use of porn or other unwanted sexual activity locks them into bondage.

We have been made in the image of God and yet we can be similar to the deer in that we can make dumb decisions related to sex. Someone’s addicted brain can lead them down a path they never intended to follow. Again, this doesn’t excuse a person’s sin but it does help explain why smart people can make such foolish decisions.

Today’s Challenge:

  1. Read the scripture below.
  2. Answer the questions.
“Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.” - 1 Corinthians 6:18

Reflection Questions:

  1. What does Paul command the church in Corinth?
  2. What does he say is unique about sexual sin from all other sins?
  3. Knowing what you learned about the brain in the Addicted Brain lesson, what is one way we sin against our own body?
  4. How does this make sexual sin so destructive to our lives?

How are your holy habits?

#1 Confession
#2 Daily Bible Reading and Prayer

Tomorrow we will look at an amazing tool to build new pathways in our brains.
