The Kingdom Life of Community Chikamu
In John 13, Jesus is sharing a meal with his followers. He is also demonstrating humility, servanthood, and love as he washes the feet of the disciples. Jesus gives us a picture of what it looks like to love people. Loving others is an entryway into a meaningful community. Loving others is not just a feeling but an action! Having loved his friends, he showed us what it looks like “to love until the end.” We can imagine love to be an internal attitude toward another, but it is real-world observable. Whether for our friends or foes, the love of God is a commitment that goes beyond our feelings. The loving humility and service to other people is not just a way to be a so-called “good person,” but an entry into the kind of unity of which Jesus spoke.
