UNITY IN THE SPIRIT
God has called us to live life in UNITY with others. He calls us to be kind and compassionate to one another, and to forgive one another as He forgave us. It’s interesting that the scripture says “do not grieve the Holy Spirit.” It helps us realise that the Spirit is very much alive and present within us, and that He is grieved by disunity.
Since God cares so much about how we treat each other, it’s important that we guard and protect one another. I like to imagine that everyone in my life is connected to me by a fishing line, each line representing a different relationship with family, friend or colleague. The goal is to keep clean lines with each person, not allowing any knots or tangles - or removing them quickly if they do.
The ultimate way to treat and care for others is with the help of the Holy Spirit within us. Galatians 5:22-23 says "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control." When we have THIS heart towards others, our words and actions will always show care for people the way God intended and we’ll find we can have great relationships!
God moves in places and environments that have a spirit of unity - He blesses families, churches and workplaces that are actively cultivating a spirit of unity. All of Heaven leans in and God’s power is evident!
