Hallow Him: Halloween & EverydayChikamu
Hallow Him- Never Assume His Will
Josiah was the greatest king ever because He loved God.
Josiah loved God, yet he assumed God’s will and it cost him his life. Although he lived a full life, he died at the age of 39. Josiah decided to war against an ungodly king without consulting God. He had a good intention, but the battle was unnecessary because it was not part of God’s assignment or will for Josiah. Please read 2 Chronicles 35:20-25.
Perhaps, you plan to go "trick or treating" with your family because you are covered by God’s grace. You may have plans to share the gospel while "trick or treating" with your children on Halloween night because you believe in making the most of every opportunity (Ephesians 5:16). You may have plans to pray with your neighbors and win some souls by welcoming those "trick or treating" into your home on Halloween night. Yet, it is also important to seek God’s will. God’s grace gives us the freedom to do many things. However, we must never assume God’s grace will cover us when we are not in His will.
It is not enough to do good things for God’s kingdom; we must always confirm that the things we are doing for God are in line with His will for us in each season of life. We must open our hearts and be led by the Holy Spirit in every decision-making process.
Let us meditate on Josiah’s action and these Bible verses:
Acts 16:6-8 (NIV)- “Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia. When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to. So they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas.”
1 Corinthians 10:23-24 (NIV) - “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive. No one should seek their own good, but the good of others.”
Prayer: Heavenly Father, open my eyes to see and ears to hear from you this moment in Jesus name. Amen
What is God impressing on your heart about Josiah and the scriptures presented? In relation to this year’s Halloween, what is God asking you to do?
It is more important for us to seek God’s will for our family regarding this subject than following popular opinion or what another family is doing. We have different battles and our assignments are unique. I believe this is the same attitude we should have in parenting and life in general. Seeking God first is the greatest way to Hallow Him daily.
