Come & SeeChikamu
My family and I have enjoyed watching all 23 of the Marvel Avengers movies. It is interesting to watch good vs evil. It makes me think about Jesus. Jesus is the good guy, the superhero, our Savior. Just like the movies, there is a bad guy in our world. Satan is the villain, the evil one.
Satan is always lying to us everyday. He is called the Father of Lies. (John 8:44) Satan is also called our Enemy who wants to devour us like a lion. We are his prey. (1 Peter 5:8) Satan wants to steal from us, kill us, and destroy us. (John 10:10)
Just like in superhero movies, the good guy, Jesus, will always win and defeat the bad guy, Satan. Jesus gives His power to us so we can defeat Satan’s attacks also. (1 John 4:4)
Satan is very sneaky, so we have to be smart. (Genesis 3:1) I have finally started to figure out how to recognize when I am believing his lies.
I have noticed that Satan always tells me the same old lies. I think that Satan has been telling me these same lies for my whole entire life. Now, I am so used to those thoughts, I forget that they are not the truth.
This is what the lies in my mind sound like:
“Who will love me? I am not lovable. I am alone! Oh no!!”
“What is wrong with me? There is something wrong with me. What if I am not good enough??”
“It all depends on me. I must work harder, be a better Christian, be wise, be good, be nice, be perfect.”
Blah blah blah blah blah!!!!!
"If", I really pay attention to my thoughts, it is the same old stuff. Sadly, I believe Satan every time he says it. It is not hard to trick me.
Before I know it, I am anxious and depressed and shaking inside, saying, “Yes, it’s true, there is something wrong with me. Yes, I am alone and no one wants me. Etc etc.”
Can I just tell you?
I AM SICK OF IT.
I AM DONE.
I am going to start living in God’s word that tells me the truth. (John 8:31-32)
I am going to say, “Uh, excuse me, Satan. I disagree with you.”
God says:
I am loved and accepted.
I have all I need in Jesus.
He will always provide friends for me.
I am content.
Jesus did all the work for me on the cross.
God forgives all my mistakes and I don’t have to be perfect.
Boom! In your face, Liar.
Try an activity of writing down some lies that you notice yourself believing. Then look in God’s word to find the truth. This can be hard to do alone, so it might really help you to do this with a friend.
When you write down the lies, then try signing this prayer to yourself, your mirror, or to a friend.
God,
I confess that I have agreed to these things…(Say the things that you believed, like for me, I am not loved. I must work hard to earn my salvation, etc).
I do NOT believe this anymore.
In Jesus' name, get out Satan!
Amen.
When you write down scriptures that tell you the truth, you need to sign them to yourself, your mirror, or your friend.
In Jesus' name, I declare this is true…(I am dearly loved, I am forgiven, He has a good plan for my life, etc).
I believe you Jesus. Set me free!
Amen.
