"Power In The Cross" - Derek Johnson
This song took me more than a year, several rewrites and the help of a couple of friends to finally finish. I wanted to write about what Jesus did on the cross but make it personal. Not just a recap of the facts but to sing about why it matters and what that means for all of us in our day-to-day life.
The idea that our hope in anchored in Jesus allows me to sing LOVE HAS MADE A WAY, HOPE IS NEVER LOST, THERE’S POWER IN THE CROSS and mean it. I could tether my hope to a million things but the only real guarantee, the only real foundation worth building on, is Jesus. Because of that, no matter the season I’m facing, Jesus remains my constant. I find a deep peace in that. That's one very personal side of what Jesus accomplished on the cross, out of death and in to life. Out of hopelessness and in to hope.
Jesus making a way where there was no way.
“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” Hebrews 6:19 NIV. I love the picture of our hope in Jesus being likened to an anchor for the soul. I believe it's meant to be more than just an encouragement. It's a promise. No matter the circumstance, we can remain anchored to the hope that comes from Christ. When we begin to focus less on the storms around us and more on who we are anchored to, Jesus, it is hope that we discover and its hope that brings us into a new day.
