Light Is Like A Toothbrush

Here’s a crazy analogy. Light is like a toothbrush. It can’t do its job if you keep it in a package. OK, maybe that’s not a strong analogy, but you get what I’m saying. What good is it to have something if you are not going to use it for all it’s worth? We have light within us, and the devil works hard at every moment to get us to dim the light.

But, we can’t exactly dim our light. We can’t turn it down. It’s not like a switch on the wall where you control the brightness.

I remember moving into our home and flipping on the switch in our master bedroom. The lights came on, but they were dim. I said, “Ughh, I need to go get some better light bulbs.”

I went out to Lowes, got some new bulbs, came back home, and popped them in. Then I flipped the switch, and...same result...dim lights. I was just about to call someone to fix the lights when I noticed a little slider right beside the light switch. I HADN’T TURNED UP THE DIMMER!

Your light doesn’t have a dimmer. It shines brightly, but we are often ashamed of the attention it would bring. We are nervous about the responsibility of the light. We fear being scrutinized and criticized because of our light. So, we hide it ourselves, or we allow it to be hidden.

But, it isn’t meant to be under wraps because Jesus has already told us, “You are the light of the world...A city set on a hill can not be hidden.”

Your light is there. Other people already know it’s there. Shine it, and some of them will begin to shine theirs as well.
