[Who's Your One? Series] Through the Roof Chikamu
What is Your Why?
Sometimes our life feels as if we were a rubber ball someone has thrown into a racket ball court, bouncing from one place to another. We jump from breakfast to school, from work and meetings to the gym, then to dinner with family. Life seems to be an endless bouncing that takes us from project A to project B. It never stops.
Pretty soon, we do not even know why we are doing what we are doing; we are just doing the next thing we have to do. We absolutely need to understand that our mission in life is what must determine our tasks and not vice versa. It is impossible to Iive our lives checking the To-Do list, filled with a number of activities, and then try to get purpose out of that.
If we want to live a thriving and purpose-driven life, we need to start with a mission; mission comes first. Ask yourself, “What am I trying to accomplish through my work? What am I trying to accomplish as a parent or as a spouse?” You can ask yourself this question in every area of your life.
What is your aim for today? That is a tough question to answer, and yet, it needs to be answered if you want to be intentional with your life, time, and resources. In order to be intentional and live a purpose-driven life, I suggest that you follow the 3 P’s:
- Pray
- Plan
- Proceed.
I have been applying the 3 P’s principles as part of my daily routine for the past three years, and I have discovered that when I open my agenda before God in prayer, most of the time, my list gets shorter than what I have written down. Why? Because sometimes, my list is full of activities that make me feel valuable, significant, and accomplished, but that have zero importance in God’s eyes.
God’s list is based on the impact that I can have for the Kingdom of God. If you are a child of God, your mission in life is to know God and to make Him known. Once you know your mission, you understand which tasks will allow you to fulfill it. Who is the person that you will make Jesus known to this year? Who’s your one? Stay focused, stay on mission. Do not become a rubber ball just bouncing around; become an arrow in the hands of God, purposeful and mission-oriented toward His bullseye.
