Faith in ‘Oppressing Times’

The first few verses of Chapter 1 say that Job was an honest man – inside and out. He was totally devoted to God and hated evil. And to top it all he was wealthy and influential. Wow! That kind of sounds like he has it all!

I could make the prayer, ‘God make me like Job’ - but I really don’t want to picture the entire book which was filled with just dreadful scenes!

A well-known phrase from the book was Job declaring, ‘I know my redeemer lives’. What faith to practice in oppressing times! He had lost everything and was in agony with no way out and yet Job says, ‘after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God..., with my own eyes'. Oh, how I long for that day!

In Job’s life, everything was under question but this fact was certain. What made him certain? Faith. Amid skin-piercing trials, his family dying and the worst conditions, Job’s hope was in His Redeemer. You may lose everything but not the redemption of God. You can say to yourself, ‘This too will pass.’

Take away:

Hold onto Him in oppressing times

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for redeeming us. Help us to hold on to the faith in oppressing times, in Jesus’ name. Amen
