Day 7

Pray from a Place of Victory

When I was hospitalized with severe clinical depression, the overwhelming temptation was to take my own life. The enemy would whisper to me in the darkest hours of the night:

You’re just like your father.

You won’t make it out of here alive.

Just end it now.

No one will ever trust you again.

You are all alone.

You will never win this battle.

In tears, I would drag myself out of bed, raise my arms high, and pray this passage out loud over and over:

I remain confident of this:

I will see the goodness of the Lord

in the land of the living.

Wait for the Lord;

be strong and take heart

and wait for the Lord. (Psalm 27:13–14)

Although I didn’t feel those words were true, I declared them to be true. These became my fighting verses. Do you have a Scripture passage that you declare over your life when everything around you seems to be falling apart? If you don’t, consider using one of my favorites, which are listed at the top of this entry. We can declare and rest in these verses with absolute confidence because they are the Word of God. We don’t just hope they are true; we know they are true.

Praying in Jesus’ name means we pray with His authority and power. His name gives us an all-access pass into the throne room of God. We come in His name. We are welcomed in His name. We pray in His name. We have victory in His name.

A PRAYER WHEN YOU’RE PRAYING FROM A PLACE OF VICTORY

Father,

I come boldly to the throne of grace and mercy in the name of Jesus. I know that I have no goodness of my own, but I thank You that I’m covered by the blood of Jesus. I thank You that I can bring all my requests before You in His name. I thank You that I am welcomed in His name. I thank You that I can bring every concern I have to You in Jesus’s name. Thank You for the beautiful, wonderful, powerful name of Jesus. Amen.

Praying Women By Sheila Walsh

There is nothing that Satan, our enemy, would love more than for us to stop praying . . . or never start. But when you have a relationship with Jesus, prayer isn’t something you do; it’s who you are. In this seven-day series based on her book Praying Women, the inspirational Sheila Walsh offers encouragement and help for anyone who has ever felt like quitting prayer.
