The Great Commandment as Ministry
"But only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, and it will not be taken away from her." (Luke 10:42)
Mary of Bethany famously spent time at the feet of Jesus. She recognized that adoration and surrender was the greatest act of service one could give. Her sister, Martha, was busy doing good things but not the greatest thing.
Every believer has a priestly call of ministry unto the Lord. Ministry is to Jesus first and foremost, and then overflows to people. If our life and ministry becomes focused on people we can easily become frustrated and busy doing good things but not great things.
Most of us become helplessly addicted activists by default. We were made to be God chasers and not people pleasers.
“If your heart takes more pleasure in reading novels, or watching TV, or going to the movies, or talking to friends, rather than just sitting alone with God and embracing Him, sharing His cares and His burdens, weeping and rejoicing with Him, then how are you going to handle forever and ever in His presence...? You'd be bored to tears in heaven, if you're not ecstatic about God now! ” -Keith Green
Prayer:
Lord, give me a heart of wholehearted devotion to you through fasting. Give me a heart and life like Mary of Bethany.
