Affirmation: Self Or God? By Robin MeadowsChikamu
SELF AFFIRMATION:
“I believe in myself.”
Well, I might today. But tomorrow I may not, because I may not feel like it, or I may be in a bad mood. My self is evolving and always changing. I am still becoming. My thoughts about myself today may be different tomorrow and sometimes my thoughts take me places that are dark and unhealthy.
Believing in himself is what sent the former Morning Star—satan—tumbling from God’s presence to a place of death.
‘How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! You said in your heart, “I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High. But you are brought down to the realm of the dead, to the depths of the pit.” Isaiah 14:12-15 NIV
His pride and focus on himself separated him from relationship with his Creator. He became “I”-focused to the point of no return.
We all believe in something, and our actions and affections always follow what we believe. What is your basis of belief? Are you worshiping the created—yourself? Or is your worship reserved for the Creator who made you and loves you even more than His own life?
Self-affirmation, self-belief, leaves us either lacking and disappointed or puffed up with arrogance and pride. God-affirmation—seeing ourselves through our Father’s eyes—gives us fulfillment and security that we are loved beyond what we can comprehend, even when we falter or fail.
When your validation is rooted only in Him, you can live without fear knowing your reliance is in something that can never fail—a solid, unchanging Person. His name is Jesus, and He will never leave you. He is faithful even when you are not. His truths are firm and His love has no limits. He is for you, sees you, and cares for you.
When you surrender your life to Him and allow Him to love you as His chosen son or daughter, you will live in all the freedom and fullness He has just for you. You are His favorite. Believe it.
“You are not your own; you were bought at a price.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. NIV
